Guide to Contracting

The terms "Contractor" or "temp" refer to a person or subcontractor who works at a company for a temporary period but is not directly employed by that company. This is usually for a fixed period of time which is often extended for further periods.

Employers use contractors as they want flexibility from the labour market. Companies often need certain skill sets only for the length of a project and once the project finishes they no longer need these skills for their main stream of business. A Contractor offers a flexible and accurate solution in these situations. Businesses also often find that work fluctuates dramatically throughout the year so companies want the flexibility of taking on more human resources to deal with peaks in demand.

To ensure that you are regularly in contract work, the following tips should help:

  • Make sure you notify Inspired recruitment when you expect to need a new contract- preferably about 4 weeks before you expect to be available
  • Ensure that Inspired recruitment always has the most up to date contact information for you i.e. telephone numbers, address and email so we can contact you quickly with any suitable vacancies
  • Keep your CV up to date with any newly acquired skills or experiences and ensure we have a recent copy so our database is displaying the most accurate details for you
  • Give us a good idea of the type of job and the rate, location and contract duration you will be looking for, highlighting both what would be ideal and what your minimum requirements are
  • Tell us your contract length and let us know as soon as you find out it is due to end so we can give you options for your next assignment in advance of your finish date.
